The Singles Club is a series of limited edition 7″ singles featuring artists we’ve recorded in our studio.
Our aim is simply to release great songs by great artists. Each release brings together 4 artists across 2 pieces of vinyl in a unique, hand printed sleeve. It’s a celebration of the best Sheffield has to offer & our way of contributing to the heritage of the historic club we’ve built our studio in.

Here’s a little more about the bands & tracks on the release…

THE DON GENES | JUNE JULY

The brainchild of Jonny Dean, a man who crafts beautiful songs, which he then presents to his musical friends & allows their creativity to fill the space his melody & words create. When the date of a visit from an old friend Tom Jarvis (Pachyderm, ex-Reverend & the Makers) from Montreal was set, Jonny called up Paul Blakeman (Club60 Music, Reverend & the Makers), Michael Eden, Jody Wildgoose & Jon Trier (Richard Hawley band) to assist & the song was tracked together live in one day in the Club60 Studio cellars. The atmosphere that is captured is exceptional & a great starting point for the ethos of Club60 Singles Club – collaborative & unique! A very special moment…

Written by Dean. Recorded by Tom Howat & Paul Blakeman. Mixed by Paul Blakeman.

obLONG | IN REMISSION

obLONG recorded their first two EPs at the studio & it came as no surprise when we asked them to perform & record a track for this release. Already established on the Sheffield live scene, one thing that stood out this time was the emotive power Tracy Deakin (lead singer) produced when this was tracked. As ever, the songwriting skills of Steve Genn (guitar) shine through but this track in particular made us want to commit it to tape. It thunders, it motors & it grabs you a little more every time you listen. Charming but brutal!

BLACK CAT WHITE CAT | FRIDGE

The brainchild of Angela Basson (lead vocals) & Simon Stafford (drums), this outfit have brought a refreshing edge & charm with their sleazy rock & blues sound. The imaginatively crafted melodies & words over thundering guitars & rhythm tracks create a glorious spectrum – captured here it’s simply stunning. Well worth worthy of a mention to catch them live. Simon’s past C.V. (Longpigs, Jarvis Cocker, Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros to name a few) has brought to this outfit a level of finesse that a lot of new music misses, whilst all along retaining the sting of a fresh smack in the face. We like that & think you will too!

Written by Basson/Stafford/Saunders/Dixon/Dean/Shipley/Cooper. Recorded by Paul Blakeman. Mixed by Paul Blakeman & Rob Gordon.

MICHAEL EDEN | DOORS

Michael Eden is no stranger to Club60 Studio; this is the first track to be released from his album of the same name, recorded here & set for release at the end of 2011. Michael has a unique sound & produces intense, uplifting & melancholic songs, crafted with a vast array of instrumentation, hypnotic loops & breathtaking, emotive vocals. This track even features the percussive qualities of the Club60 toliet door springs! The recording of Doors has been quite a journey for both Michael & the studio, but one that we’re all immensely proud of.
