YOUR PRESENTERS…
The Club60 Radio crew (from left) Iain, Cotton, Laura & Sally
IAIN
Born in the same year as punk, and brought up on a diet of brass band music, Iain is the back bone of Club60 radio.
After years of DJing at some of Sheffield’s cheesiest bars, in 2008 Iain blagged his way onto BBC Radio Sheffield to become the voice of Raw Talent until earlier this year.
Over his many years on the show Iain played host to some of the region’s finest bands, bringing live sessions, gigs, reviews and interviews to the people of South Yorkshire. Along the way he also maximized his broadcaster status to make it to some of the country’s finest festivals.
But Iain’s not just a face for the radio – he’s the pimp daddy of Club60 Radio and a rather talented drummer to boot.
Oh and if you’re interested Iain’s favourite animal is a monkey.
COTTON
Cotton’s love for music began when she worked at Our Price in beautiful Burton upon Trent. After leaving school she developed a keen love of live music, particularly supporting her friends, she became an obsessive fan to an assortment of indie bands, following many around the country (not a groupie though apparently).
Moving to Sheffield in 1997 Cotton hooked up with Hugh obLONG who introduced her to the Sheffield music scene. Leaving behind her provisional routes her eyes were opened to the cultures that a big city offers. As well as a life of sex, drugs and rock & roll.
Since Club60′s rebirth in 2006 Cotton has been an integral part of the team supporting partner Paul Blakeman et al in building the unique analogue recording space.
Over the past year she’s also been involved with the Club 60 singles club and parping in the Unsung National Heroes, coerced into resurrecting the trumpeting skills she developed whilst at school (brass band routes that she doesn’t really like to talk about) – Cotton really is Miss Club 60.
LAURA
Laura had a very showbiz upbringing, with most of her family being involved in musicals in the West End, so it was inevitable that she would follow in these footsteps somehow.
At the tender age of 15, Laura fronted a poptastic school band called ‘Jaded’ during which she sported some very questionable fashion trends.
During her first week studying in Leeds in 2002, Laura met Jon McClure and Eddi Cosens – not long after Judan Suki was formed.
With regular visits to Sheffield, Laura then joined Reverend and The Makers on backing vocals and later on keys and finally took the plunge of moving to Sheffield in 2006. Laura is currently with R&TM working on their 3rd album and writing her own material with Eddi.
Being the only southerner of the group Laura predictably revels in R&B, soul, garage and dance of the dirty variety.
SALLY
With absolutely no ability to play any musical instrument of any kind (bar a painful year with the recorder, aged 8), you may well be wondering why Sally Rushton is part of the Club60 Radio Team.
A PR and social media type by day, Sally brings to the team the voice of the enthusiastic common (wo)man – into music, but with no desire to get on stage, thanks.
Organising the team and nagging are her specialties, alongside a love of Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys (predictable) and everything vaguely good and guitar-y. Keen to feature artists, actors, politicians, entrepreneurs and anything slightly different.
